Stories on Umbria 2012

Pietro Cozzi, Julius Honnor and Giacomina Valenti are the winners of the 2012 International Journalism Award “Raccontami l’Umbria – Stories on Umbria”.

Pietro Cozzi won the prize for the Press Section with his article entitled “Medioevo segreto” published in the January 2012 issue of the monthly “Bell’Italia”.

Julius Honnor won for the Web Section with his article “Traveller’s Guide: Umbria” posted on 11 June 2011 on the web site of the Independent.

Giacomina Valenti prevailed in the TV Section with her report “Storie del Trasimeno: Isola Maggiore e Castiglione”, which aired on the MARCOPOLO theme channel beginning in the month of June 2011.

The Jury also decided to present a special mention award to the British journalist Lee Marshall for his article that appeared in the June 2011 issue of the periodical Traveller, entitled “High Art”.

Highly prestigious publications have been represented in this third edition of the Prize: The New York Times, The Independent, Deutsche Presse, Bell’Italia, The Boston Globe, Traveller, De Telegraaf, Oggi, Dove, La Repubblica Viaggi, Corriere della Sera, Aftenposten and Marcopolo.

Established by the Perugia Chamber of Commerce in 2009 with the additional support of the Terni Chamber of Commerce since 2011, the third “Raccontami l’Umbria” has reached a total of 53 official candidates – 29 for the press section, 13 for the web and 11 for the Tv section - from Italy, Great Britain, Italy, Australia, Germany, Holland, Latvia, Russia, the United States, Hungary, Norway and Argentina.

The award ceremony of “Raccontami l’Umbria”, part of the official programme of the International Journalism Festival and including the participation of the winning journalists, had been held on 27 April 2012 (11:30 am) at the “Galeazzo Alessi” Chamber Services Centre. The ceremony has been coordinated by the President of the Evaluation Committee, Bruno Gambacorta.
